Internet Connection Sharing

Since windows 98 second edition all versions of windows have shipped with ICS - Internet Connection Sharing. This allows you to share any dial up connection to other computers on your network.

Requirements :: 2 or more networked computers preferably running windows 2000 / XP but pretty much anything works.

Activate ICS. Right click on the internet connection you wish to share, and click on the advanced tab. Enable ICS here and it will give you various messages. This turns on DHCP, where the computer with the shared connection handles giving out IP adresses for all the other computers on the network. Also decide whether to automatically connect when needed (best for unmetered / broadband) or connect manually.

To make all this work, your other computers shuld be set to get an ip address automatically.
