2001 Peugeot 106 1.1 Independance
My parents helped me buy this car in January 2001 to replace the ailing sierra. The car was bought for £6250 and came with a years free insurance, which saved me about a grand. I owned this car for two years and it never needed any major work doing on it. One service at 20000 miles and a replacement airbag sensor under the seat was all it needed.
The 1.1 engine is surprisingly fun in the 106 - enough torque and a bit of power (60hp) mean this light little cars actually go. Handling is a strong point of the 106 as well - so chuckable in bends. Tended to give over 40mpg as well. The only major design fault is the complete lack of security, the cars can be opened in seconds with a screwdriver. Make sure you buy one with an alarm, or have one fitted as a matter of priority. The car itself is safe with its immobiliser but you possesions are not.
All in all I was very happy with this little car, and only changed as I wanted more power and more toys! So my mum part exed this for her new car and i got the Saxo VTR.....
