RIP VTR 24/10/2003
New 02/08/2004 - Like a phoenix, the VTR rises from the ashes. My saxo has been spotted in a garage for sale, at £2495. The person who saw it says the repair job is not too bad. Personally, I dont think cars with bent shells should ever be back on the roads.
New 27/10/2003 - I stopped for a pedestrian crossing and got hit up the rear by a coach who obviously had better things to do than stop for me. Car is written off. Not impressed. But on a plus side, the over enginerred boot floor held the sub firmly in place during the impact. (Though the head unit came out of the dash!)
Photos: See the devastation... Just one photo now..
I bought this car on new years day from my mum who has owned it from new. its a 1997 Citroen Saxo 1.6 VTR which we bought new in sept '97. With only 34,000 miles, the car has been used very little since it was bought. This car replaces my Peugeot 106 1.1 Independence which I have owned for two years. It came with a years free insurance, and I stayed with Peugeot insurance for the second year and I was very pleased to find out they had doubled my no claims bonus - 4 years for the two I was with them. Hope I can carry this onto my hood insurance. The car makes it into EVO magazines 'The Knowledge' Rated at 4 stars and they say "+Best value supermini you can buy -Cramped pedals". Yes it does have cramped pedals - but so did my 106 and I quickly learned how to compensate for the lack of space. A very small gripe one feels. There is also a huge online community for the Saxo with the Saxo Sports Club leading the way with a very popular forum.
The car is a big improvement over the 106, with better handling, more grip, go and stop. An extra 30bhp and 30lb/ft does help. It gives me a definite urge to get on with the hood. And get on I will, after the Saxo is sorted out - new pads and exhaust need fitting. The car is also famed for lift-off over steer which will keep me happy until the hood is built and I have RWD again.
Performance for the Saxo VTR (taken from parkers online)
Power: 90bhp Top speed: 116mph 0-60: 9.3s
Not at all bad for a car that costs 4 grand ish for a good s-plate example and is group 7 insurance.
My ICE install is coming along, I have built a new boot floor out of MDF, with a box on it to hold the amp under a display panel and the box for my sub also attaches to this floor. All in all it should make things harder to steal as now a huge install, weighing 30kg ish would have to be removed. My ICE page has more info on my setup. (Currently offline)
